Our greens renovations last week was a smooth operation and successful. The weather was absolutely perfect for all 3 days and it enabled us to take advantage of the course being closed and do some extras. All greens were cored using a 12mm hollow tine and topdressed. All sand was then rubbed into the surface and the core holes. Amendments and renovation fertiliser were then applied. The recovery and healing process has been very positive so far with our best and healthiest greens such as the 2nd, 4th, 13th, 15th improving rapidly. Our greens that tend to be the problem children and suffered from some climatic and mechanical stress at the back end of summer such as the 7th, 10th, 12th will take a little longer to recover and we will micro manage them over the coming weeks to assist with them improving. The new 14th has also suffered a little at the end of summer with the high volume of play, some climatic stress and still being a young juvenile green. Signs of improvement are showing on these greens post renovations and now that we are into cooler nights and reduced humidity it is ideal for the cool, season grasses on the greens surfaces. All greens had their first mow since renovations on Tuesday at a height of 4mm. A second mow was done on Thursday morning and the cutting height will be incrementally reduced over the next 2-3 weeks.
