A Massive Thanks!

A call was put out last week for any interested members that would like to come and assist the course staff to push mow and whipper snip some of the long grass around the course that we had as a consequence of the 2 weeks of inclement weather. It was necessary to do this as the golf course was too wet for the normal machinery that would take care of these areas and the grass had reached a significant length. In response just on 40 members responded and arrived at the maintenance shed at 8am on Friday morning with an abundance of enthusiasm. Everyone was briefed on what we were aiming to achieve and divided up into 3 separate teams to attack different areas of the course. Each team was led by a member of staff. This proved to be a really effective and efficient method with a lot being achieved in a small space of time, although the energy levels were much more depleted after 3-4 hours of work compared to that at arrival. A sausage sizzle at the shed completed proceedings with some laughs and stories shared by all involved.

It was great to see so many people take time out of their day to contribute to the course and getting it back in a playable and presentable condition. The camaraderie and interaction with course staff was also great to see.

A massive thank you and acknowledgement of effort and contribution from everyone at the Club to these group of members for their time.

Course Update

The course will be reopening for play on Wednesday 16th March. Carts will not be out on the course until Saturday at this stage due to many areas of the course still being wet and boggy.  The driving range and 2 practice greens are open for regular use.

Staff have been working hard in recent days doing extra hours in an effort to get the course open and in a safe and playable condition. All cutting heights have been required to be raised, as most areas had not seen a mower on them for at least 2 weeks. Fairways, Tees and Approaches have been mowed at least once now since Saturday and are drying out quite well. There still remains a number of holes that are quiet soggy and messy. These will take some time to recover and we will being carrying out some cultural practices over the next couple of weeks to assist the recovery. We are slowly picking away at the rough as there is a lot to catch up on. When the course reopens the rough will remain thick and long in a lot of areas for the short term. It is going to take 3-4 weeks to get on top of it and back down to the regular cutting height. The course is going to be a little messy and untidy for a couple more weeks as we continue to work to get it back to the condition we expect and like to deliver.

Greens Renovations

Greens renovations have been completed in the past 2 days. It has been a much lighter renovation due to the priority being to get the course safe and playable so we can open for play. A smaller tine has been used and less sand applied to the greens and then rubbed in. With the greens being in a strong and healthy condition, a heavy renovation was not totally necessary and this lighter one will be sufficient this time around. We ask that members take the time to repair divots and repair pitch marks on their return to play.
