Memorial Day for the Roz Hill Memorial Trophy - Sunday 23rd September

Thanks to the Club and Stuart Meani for his overall assistance in setting up the competition.   As usual the bar and catering staff were on hand to provide refreshments. My thanks to Mandy in the office for providing the photocopying requirements I requested.

Regretfully, the numbers of competitors were down again this year, where once again we clashed with the ladies' pennants, junior commitments and the end of various football seasons.  We had moved our date forward to avoid these clashes, but they moved as well.

It may be necessary to look at the calendar and move this event to a new time slot next year in order to increase the participation levels.

The results of Memorial Day are as follows:

  • Greg Matheson & Rob Carpenter (2 3/4) 63 1/4
  • John Berry & Steve O'Donnell  (9 1/4) 63 3/4
  • Bill Bell & Jason Morton (5 3/4) 64 1/4

  • Lola Harris & Gloria Wakeling (14 3/4) 67 1/4
  • Yvonne Day & Candice Bell (8 1/4) 67 3/4 c/b
  • Annette Wilson & Wendy Hyndman (17 1/4) 67 3/4

A good day was had by all and those who attended were very complimentary of the event.

Thanks to Yvonne Day for the organisation on the day and for this report.

2018 Annual Report

Camden Golf Club's 2018 Annual Report is now available for all members.  A copy can be accessed on our Club's website.

News from the Course

  • The 5th green will be playing a little slower than others for a while as the grass will be kept longer in length in an effort to allow the grass to recover.  There has been some returfing of a section of the green - looking much better.
  • An update on the MiClub Website and our Camden Golf Club App.  Members who want to look at regular competition results that have been removed from the leaderboard file, will now need to view through the App.  MiClub will show major event results only.
  • The compulsory GUR sign on the 9th hole has now been removed.
  • The plug holes that have been used to repair some of our greens have created some issues around the edges.  These areas are to be treated as GUR.  In most cases they have been marked.  In some cases, the area has been smoothed with sand.  All players may take relief, no nearer the hole, from the fringe areas that have been plugged with dead patches from the green.  This information appears on the whiteboard outside the Pro Shop.
  • Most members would now be aware of the vacancy created by the departure of Shane Herring.  At the moment, Issac Wojewodka will be relieving in the position of Course Superintendent, with Mitchell Arnold second in charge.  An advertisement has been framed for a permanent replacement.
  • A reminder to members that we all have a special hole that we need to look after.  An initiative by the Golf and Greens Committees, each member will continue to repair pitch and divots when they play all holes, however, the special hole is one that we will all take extra care of.  A copy of the hole responsibilities, based on surnames, is now located in the Pro Shop and Clubhouse notice board.  Thank you for your participation in this activity.
  • A final opportunity for seniors, over the age of 50, to play in the Senior Order of Merit event next Tuesday.  Entry forms in the Pro Shop - today is the deadline.

Mid Week Ladies Foursomes Championship

Round 1 leader in both scratch and nett is the Kim De Cean and Maria Thorn combination, with an outstanding scratch score of 94, nett 68, to hold a narrow one shot lead in scratch and four shot lead in the nett.  Second in scratch is tight, with Shelley Chapman (fresh off the plane) and Sue Marsh, Wanda Kozinski and Mindy Ross, Heather Dunlop and Yvonne Day all one stroke behind on 95.

In the nett, Judy Page and Tricia Gleeson, Yvonne Day and Heather Dunlop are equal second on a score of 72.

Next week is the final round.

Garry Campbell's Golden Oldie Rams Super Seniors

Round 6 - 17/09/2018

Played Kareela at Port Kembla

We travelled to Port Kembla confident our top four players would comfortably bring us home.  Never take anything for granted in golf.  Kareela proved themselves very worthy opponents.  They played strongly and represented their club proudly.

Round 7 - 24/09/2018

Played Port Kembla at The Grange

We travelled to The Grange knowing we had qualified for the final round of sixteen before our match against Port Kembla.

Sunday Ladies Pennant Results

Round 1

Sunday 16 September 2018 Camden v Springwood @ Penrith

Our first round match up for a new Nepean Sunday Ladies Pennant found our Camden ladies heading to Penrith for a match up against Springwood.  With the Blue Mountains teams entering the Sunday pennant competition, its certainly given a much more competitive field.

Our Camden ladies however turned up to play and although we didn't come up with a win, a draw match of 3-3 for a first round was a great result.

Congratulations to Maria Thorn, Christine Pettitt and Jacinta Maas on their individual match wins.

Round 2

Sunday 23 September 2018 - Camden v Lakeside @ Lynwood

Our second round match up took our Camden ladies on a hike over to Lynwood for a match up against our locals at Lakeside.  While the long trek all the way to Lynwood just to play a local club from down the road didn't benefit either side, our Camden ladies took total advantage of the match up to secure a fantastic 5-1 win.

Our ladies are certainly off to a great start of the 2018 Sunday Ladies Pennant season!

Congratulations to Rebecca Wright, Maria Thorn, Linda Hogan, Bernadette Johnston and Christine Pettitt on their individual match wins.

 Cheers, Candice Bell
