Women's Camden Cup

A beautiful day, challenging pin placements and a solid field of visitors.

The Nett winner was Toni Antigo (Queanbeyan) who won by one shot with a score of 76 off a handicap of 26.

Narelle Hellier (Hurstville) was a close second.

The Scratch Winner was Lesley McRae from Campbelltown Golf Club with an excellent score of 83 and a four stroke victory over Colette Blacklock (Ryde Parramatta).  Colette had won the NSW Mid Amateur Championship the week before, so she was in excellent form.  A stroke further back was Camden local, Candice Bell, with a score of 88.

Quite an amazing occurrence that Michael Bell was the leading Camden player in the men's Camden Cup and Candice was the leading Camden player in the women's event.  Well done Bells.

Camden Futures Junior Event

Last Sunday, Camden hosted a junior event with a good field of junior talent from different parts of Sydney.  A field of 40 players competed for the championship.  The scratch winner was Joshua Todd (Randwick) with an excellent score of 73. Second was William Moody (Avondale) 76, with local Joshua Battle third a further stroke back.

In the Nett event, Blake Hodges (Dunheved) won in a very close finish with Camden's Geordie Taylor.  Geordie had an excellent Nett 69 off a handicap of 17.

Ladies Pennant Report

2 weeks of play, brings 2 weeks of wins for the Ladies Pennant Teams.  Last week (28th May) had them playing Dunheved at Campbelltown, 71 shots in total were given to the dunheved ladies, but they still managed to get up
with a 4-1 win.

  • Candice Bell won 1 up.
  • Shelley Chapman won 7 and 5.
  • Wanda Kozinski won 6 and 5.
  • Kerry Cahill won 2 and 1.
  • Judy Page went down 6 and 5.

This week, 4th June the ladies played at Dunheved against Campbelltown.  The ladies gave a large number of shots (82), but again, were able to come away with a convincing 4-1 win.

  • Candice Bell won 3 and 2.
  • Shelley Chapman won 6 and 4.
  • Mindy Ross won 3 and 1.
  • Valerie Jameson won 6 and 5.
  • Kerry Cahill went down 4 and 3.

The last two weeks of wins has seen the ladies climb the ladder from last, to fourth, to now  second.

They face Richmond in 2 weeks at Richmond for the last game of the season, and whilst Richmond are too far ahead to hunt them down for the overall win, their latest form should see them be competitive against the leading team.

Men's Masters Pennant Report  -  Rounds 4 & 5

Round 4 V Windsor at Windsor
Not our best weekend. It was always going to be difficult, but a 14 to 1 loss was not what we had in mind. The team needs to regroup for our next home match to keep our season alive.

Individual results:

  • Greg Matheson -  square
  • Chris Zanoni - 5 and 3 loss
  • Bill Bell - 5 and 4 loss
  • Rob Bolton - 2 and 1 loss
  • Peter Nonnenmacher - 2 and 1 loss
  • Joe Smuk - 5 and 4 loss
  • Bob Zelesco - 2 and 1 loss
  • Richard Stomber 1 down loss

Round 5  V Ryde Parramatta at Camden
A welcome return to form after the previous week's disaster. A profound 15-0 victory at home against Ryde has put us back with a slim chance of progressing to the K/O stage. With a week off this week due to the long weekend, a strong showing away at Dunheved the following Sunday may give us an opportunity to go further if an upset can occur in the other match.

Individual results:

  • Greg Matheson - 1 up win
  • Chris Zanoni - 5 and 4 win
  • Rob Bolton - 2 and 1 win
  • Peter Nonnenmacher - 6 and 4 win
  • Neville Hoskins - 4 and 3 win
  • Joe Smuk - 5 and 4 win
  • Gary Hunt - 1up win
  • Bob Zelesco - 4 and 3 win

A Few Reminders

  • Some members with GPS, can now download the new distances for the 8th and 9th holes. We are having some difficulty with a few providers.  MGI /Sureshot should be OK. Bushnell say it is done, go to www.bushnell.igolf.com and do a single course update. We are still waiting on Garmin and Golfbuddy.  Are there any others we need to contact?  Let Greg Matheson know please.
  • The new internal out of bounds on the 12th hole is located to the right and 60 metres from the tee box, clearly marked with white and black tipped pine logs.
  • The soil removed from the 11th dam that has been located to the left of the 12th hole is to be treated as GUR at this stage.  There are significant track marks leading from the 11th dam to the dumping area and should be treated as GUR.  Great to see some rain to fill up the 11th dam after the work has been done.
  • Please ensure that after bunkers are raked that the rake is placed in the middle of the bunker lying in the direction of play.
  • Pace of play becomes far more important during winter months. In recent weeks we have had some groups finishing in the dark. If your group falls behind (identified as two shots behind the group ahead), utilise strategies of increasing pace of play such as:
    • having two players who have putted out move to the next tee box to tee off.
    • incorporating 'ready golf' - hitting out of turn to increase speed of play is acceptable within your group.
    • Brisk movement between shots.
  • Divot filling is essential at all times, particularly in winter.
  • The bark on the left of the 10th hole is in play. This had been removed from the GUR notification on Stu's white board a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to BRANDON VELLA who made the NSW Combined Catholic Schools Golf team recently.  Brandon played in the North Coast Junior Masters recently where he came 8th overall and won his age division Nett.  If you see him returning the carts to the cart shed, congratulate him.  Well done Brandon.

Keep Calm & Play Golf

Good Luck!

Good luck to Albert Smart and Chris Zanoni this Saturday in their semi final of the Cosgrove /Whear club handicap match play event.

The winner will play Bill Bell, who accounted for Greg Miller in a thriller (no pun intended) last week prior to Bill's departure O/S.

Administration Office - Open Saturday
