Board of Directors

President's Report

Thank you to the golfing members who attended the Camden Golf Club Annual General Meeting last Monday night.  Very positive reports were presented regarding the Club's financial, course, golf and membership status for the financial year.  So the Club is in a very good position.  Please note that the election results were announced, with no change to the makeup of the Board of Directors.  As as result, the following positions will be held for the next 12 months:

  • President - Andrew Moyle
  • Vice President - James (Jim) Blaker
  • Captain - Gary Hunt
  • Vice Captain - Ben Watkins
  • Treasurer - Colleen Versluis
  • Troy Erickson & Brett Moyes will share the Marketing portfolio
  • Darren Hooton will be assisting Colleen with the Treasury

Club Captain Gary Hunt

Captain's Report

The Captain and President have received quite a few reports recently on the unsavoury topic of cheating on the golf course. This is always a difficult issue to deal with unless members are prepared to name names and outline the situation and evidence.  All members are expected to follow the rules of golf and be prepared to play under the expected norms of behaviour and fair play that our game holds as a primary endeavour.

It needs to be noted that any member who is caught knowingly cheating will be asked to front the Board and if found guilty may have their membership terminated.

Christmas Ambrose

Our Christmas event on December 18 will once again include hams and wine for the lucky winners, so factor this in before you go shopping for Christmas goodies.

Presentation Night

Due to the large number of events that were not completed this year due to COVID, our annual Presentation Night will not be held.  However, for the small number of events that were completed, the usual awards will be presented - in a different forum.

For the Women's events, a prize giving ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 15th December after golf.

For the Men, the awards will be presented at the Christmas Ambrose event on Saturday, 18th December, after golf.  Award winners will be notified in the coming weeks.

Women's Captain

A new Women's Captain was announced last week, with Annie Brady taking on this position, with Colleen Versluis the Vice Captain.  We wish them both every success in these positions.

How Good Is Golf!

If you didn't get the chance to see the final few holes of the LPGA event last week (Pelican Open), you must try to find it and have a look.  Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda having a meltdown and allowing Lydia Ko and Sei Young Kim back into a playoff.  Never over until it's over.  How good is golf?

Great To See - the number of presenters (I think it was all of them) at the AGM last week, showing their appreciation and acknowledgment of excellence to Stephen Humphreys as he relinquished his role on the Board of Directors after 23 years of dedicated service to our Club.  Of course his 20 years as President was a highlight, as is the rego number of his car - who else has CGC and their membership number as the plate for their car?  Stephen can now focus on his golf game when he comes to the course and could be the 'one to watch' over the next few years.  Thanks Stephen.

Justin Bradbury's Greens Renovation Report

Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast and wet conditions we had to cancel our Sunday afternoon start to greens renovations.  It is nice to have the ability to get a head start on the Sunday and get ahead of the game but that wasn't to be this year and as it turned out there were a number of changes and decisions that were required to be made on the run.

Justin's Report

Edward (Ted) Clapson

Funeral Notice - Edward (Ted) Clapson

It is with deep regret we advise that long term-golfing member Edward (Ted) Clapson passed away on Sunday 14th November.

Edward (Ted) was a golfing member of Camden Golf Club for over 52 years and many of our current members would have, at some time, enjoyed having a game of golf with Edward (Ted).

A funeral for Edward will be held at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24th November at Gledswood Homestead & Winery followed by a Wake at the same location.

Phil Bevington

Welfare Report

With assistance from Wil Maehler I have some news on Phil Bevington.

Wil and his wife have been to visit Phil. He is staying at Advantaged Care, Prestons Lodge (Nursing Home).

Wil advises that Phil would welcome a visit from his golfing friends.

To visit the Nursing Home you will need to contact the nursing home on 8763 8333 to arrange access.

Regards,
Pete Southby, Welfare Officer.
