Cancellation Update

Cancellation Update

Our Club Championships, due to be played over 4 weeks commencing October 9, (then October 16, 23 and 30) have unfortunately been cancelled for this year.  With groups of 4 needed and with Local Government Area restrictions unknown for this period of time, it has been decided that the event will be cancelled for 2021.  Contributing factors that would prevent Championships taking place:

  • Members outside our LGA have not had access to the course for over three months.  In some cases, these members have not been able to play golf anywhere.
  • As mentioned above, groups of 4 would be required to allow the maximum number of members to participate - this is unknown at the moment.
  • The Greens Renovation needs to take place on November 8 and 9. This would prevent Championship conditions from occurring until early December - not a good time to start a big event running into Christmas.

The Super Seniors Pennant season has been cancelled for 2021.  It was due to begin a few weeks ago.  The boys are now looking forward to the 2022 season late next year.

No word yet on the Masters Pennant final series.  This event reached the Promotion/relegation matches in mid June.  The Camden team were poised to play for the Division 3 Flag, when restrictions were put in place.

With most of our major events cancelled this year, including the Mixed Foursomes, Men's and Women's Foursomes, Club Championships and a number of other regular events, the Club's Presentation Night is unlikely to be held this year.  It would be a Presentation Night with little to present.

Club Captain Gary Hunt

From the Captain (Gary Hunt)

At this stage, we are hoping to have the 2022 Men's Club Match Play qualification on the December medal and the week after, if we are out of lockdown and all players have access to the course.

We are planning on removing preferred lies commencing October.  I think you would agree, the course is in such wonderful condition we rarely need to prefer the ball already.

Course Superintendent Justin Bradbury

From the Course Superintendent (Justin Bradbury)

We have started a project on the putting green (closest to the Pro-Shop) where we are extending and widening one end.  This will give golfers a larger putting surface.  Should it be successful, it will give us the option to carry out this procedure on some of the smaller greens on the course that have reduced in size over a period of time.  The putting green will be closed for at least this week.  When it reopens for play it will be strictly putting only as the newly seeded area will be a definite 'no go zone' to give it the best possible chance to be successful.  It will take approx. 10-12 weeks for the new area to grow in and become playable.

Snakes

There have been numerous snake sightings over the past 2 weeks.  They seem to be a little more active this year as they come out of hibernation.

Special thanks to Mindy Ross for the pic (right) of the Black Snake on the 2nd hole taken earlier this week.

Sue Marsh & Stuart Meani

Hole-in-One

Congratulations to Sue Marsh who had a hole-in-one on Saturday 14th August on the 6th hole.

Golf Professional Stuart Meani presented Sue with her hole-in-one trophy earlier this week.

Well done Sue!

Eagle

Some Good News

Congratulations to Maria Thorn who had an eagle on the 12th hole on Saturday 11/9. Clearly she is not only capable of wonderful gardening (around the 10th tee area); she can also play some quality golf!

We are all hoping for life to get back to something close to normal in the next month or so, when we can finally enjoy our Club facilities, play in groups of 4, welcome back our members who currently can't play here (yes - we are thinking of you all) and get to play out of bunkers without taking a preferred lie (well maybe we would prefer to keep this one in place).
