Lockdown Frustrations

Things have been very difficult for members during the past two months, not the least being the inability of many members to get to play at all due to the 10km restrictions. Those who do live within the 10k radius have also had issues getting their name on the playing list due to the two players per group and cart restrictions.  For those who are frustrated at missing a time, please understand that we are lucky that we don't live in Melbourne or Brisbane. We will all appreciate it when things get back to normal and we can enjoy the great new facilities at the Club and just the opportunity to sit down and have a chat with friends inside after being belted by the course.

Men's August Medal

The new 'normal' it seems is a Medal Par.  In these difficult times, a Stroke Event would take forever to play, so we should be thankful.

So the Men's Par Medal winners from last Saturday:

  • A Grade - Ash Birkin (+5)
  • B Grade - Nicholas Zelesco (+1) cb
  • C Grade - Chad Rogers (+3) cb

Congratulations to each player who now qualifies for the Medal of Medals at the end of the year.  It seems that Ash Birkin must be feeling some pressure to perform from his son Oliver with his final score of plus 5; don't worry Ash - you should have him covered for at least 12 months before the 'son defeats the dad'.  Also great to see Nicholas Zelesco back playing and in good form after a lengthy hiatus.

How good are our greens?

Yes, they are fast and three putts are a regular feature in our rounds, but how straight does the ball travel?  Maybe we used to get the odd lucky break - not anymore.

Well done Justin and the greens staff.

Women's Stableford Results: from Saturday 7th

  • A Grade - Bernadette Johnston - 38 pts
  • B grade - Judy Page - 39 pts (cb)

Club Captain Gary Hunt

From the Captain

  • I think in most cases all members are trying their best to keep pace of play to around the 4hr mark which is what I think is fair for Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday competitions. So well done members.
  • A reminder when booking in - book in members who are intending to play in the competition - not just to hold a spot for your mate who may not be a member of the Club.
  • We are trying to let as many visitors play when spots are available but members do get preference when it comes to competition both Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • Remember the Monday competition is a Pro Shop Comp and is open to all members and non members.
  • Friday 9 hole comp is also open to visitors.
  • While you are waiting in the middle of the fairway or on the tee to hit, a great way to pass your time is to fill divots and to cover up bare patches on both fairway and rough.
  • Also calling up the group behind is a winner for pace of play - seems that is working a treat.
  • I am currently looking at options to allow the Club Foursomes Championships to go ahead. Some of the options include one round only, (to be played on the 25th September) play in pairs only - if you have any ideas, pass them onto me (Gary Hunt, or Stu Meani).
  • A reminder about keeping carts outside the blue lines or the 10m as specified in carts.
  • From the Ladies Captain - Congratulations to Libby Newcombe achieving her first ever eagle today (Wednesday 11/8) on the 1st hole.  Golf is so unfair sometimes -  if it was a stableford event, she would have had a 2 for 5 points - Unfortunately for Libby, it was a Par event and she got a plus.

Reminder to Members

Members are once again reminded not to congregate after their round of golf - please exit the premises as soon as possible.  Areas of particular concern include near the Halfway House, the carpark and practice facilities.

We appreciate your assistance and understanding.
