A Message from the Captain

  • While current restrictions are in place - if you live in the LGA or within 10km as per the rules but you have been in a hot spot you are NOT to come and play golf. For example, a visitor from Liverpool may live in the area, but if they have played at Liverpool Golf Club recently, they must not play at Camden.
  • If you live outside the 10km radius, members must not come and play. Please don't put the Pro Shop staff in the difficult position of asking member for a home address and then having to refuse access to the course.
  • Map showing the 10km radius:

  • New cards have been ordered by Stu with some minor alterations to the local rules. Please check the back of the card in the next few weeks. The toilet code will also be placed on the back of the card (in case you need to know C2580X).
  • The Higlett Edwards event for male players was due to have a qualifying round last week. Due to COVID restrictions this event has been postponed.
  • The Mixed Foursomes was due to be played this Saturday and Sunday - this event is highly unlikely to be played. More information to follow.
  • I am attempting to gather feedback from members who have not rejoined. If they have access to this report and would like to give me, Gary Hunt, this information, please contact through the clubs front office. This information will assist in improving our 'product' for all members.

Booking In:

With the COVID restrictions continuing, the Club's plan for booking in for the next few Saturdays has had to change. At the time of going to print, the situation is unstable and difficult to give surety to members.

At the moment:

For Saturday 17/7 - This was the Club Mixed Foursomes Championship opening round (with the final round on Sunday 18/7). At this stage, it appears unlikely to be played. Assuming this is the case, an alternate event will be played with a book in online from 7pm on Thursday 15/7.

For Thursday 22/7-  Book in online from 7pm on Friday 16/7.

All members are advised to check timesheets as they are to change as we work through restrictions.

We will also be running a 9 hole comp from 1.30pm on Saturday.

July Medal:

Played on Saturday July 3, under good weather conditions, but with a slightly damp course, there were some excellent scores from the back tees and with some very tricky pin positions. The following members won the Medal and now qualify for the Medal of Medals in November:

Men's A Grade - Greg Miller - 66

Men's B Grade - Ricky Taylor - 69

Men's C Grade - Shaun Beardsley - 68

Women's A/B Grade - Shelley Chapman - 77

Women's C Grade - Margaret Poulton - 80

Course Care:

We have reached that stage of the year where grass growth is minimal, large areas of the course are damp due to the regular rain we have experienced and huge numbers of members and visitors are playing the course every day of the week. (This of course is a good thing for the club).

With this in mind, we need to be aware of our responsibilities as members. Please ensure that you carry and use your sand bucket and fill divots. Also, on the greens we need to repair pitch marks to allow our wonderful greens to continue to play so well.

Carts and course care: With constant rain we have been receiving over recent months and the course not drying out how we'd like in some areas, we do put restrictions in place to protect the course. The 9th hole is currently 'carts on the path only' due to it being wet and not seeing much sun, (if any) during the day. The 18th hole is another hole that can stay soft and wet and needs protection at times. If members and guests could please respect the requests in the best interest of the course and simply avoid driving over known wet patches.

Juniors on the way up:

We have seen some great juniors come through the ranks over many years at Camden Golf Club. More recently, Robbie Minns, Jarod Harvey, Matthew Greene, Noah Graham have all had massive improvements in their game. Last Saturday, we may have seen the next big gun start the journey - Oliver Birkin had a great score of plus 6 in a Par event to win C Grade. Well done.

Thanks:

Maria Thorn has done a wonderful job with the garden  between the 9th green and the lower 10th tee. We have a number of members who contribute to the beauty of our course through their efforts. Thanks Maria - word is that she plans on doing the same to another garden bed.

Women's Report (from last week):

Rider Cup

The Ladies 'Rider Cup (named after the Ryder Cup - well maybe not) was played over 2 consecutive Wednesdays. It is a stableford event.

After the first round Lola Harris was leading on 34 points with 7 other players on score of 30 plus.

The second round was played in beautiful weather; although a little chilly to start. Dirkje Kingma had a score of 40 points with Gloria Wakeling close behind on 38 points.

The result after 2 rounds had only a 1 point difference. Dirkje Kingma won on a combined score of 31/40=71 to Gloria Wakeling's combined score of 32/38=70.

Dirkje has continued her winning streak. Recently she has won two medals and now the Rider Cup. Congratulations to Dirkje Kingma on winning the Rider Cup.
