Camden Cup Report

Men's

A strong field of 100 male players, including over 40 visitors from a wide range of clubs across Sydney and further afield - Queanbeyan, Avondale, Kogarah, St Michaels, Bankstown, Liverpool, Pennant Hills, Woolooware, Blackheath, Bonnie Doon, The Vintage, Links Shell Cove, Penrith, Leonay and all of the local Camden/Campbelltown clubs played last Saturday under firm, fast and windy conditions. The course was extremely well presented by Justin Bradbury and his team, who have worked tirelessly in recent weeks (as they always do) particularly in bringing the bunkers 'back' after the recent heavy rain events.  Luke Arthur from Lakeside Golf Club won in very convincing fashion, with an outstanding 1 under par round of 70. The long hitting Arthur, who won the longest drive on 14 with a massive strike, won by 4 shots over Joshua Fuller (The Vintage)with Colin Mitchell (Links Shell Cove) on the same score in third place (count back). Michael Bell was the leading Camden player, one stroke further back in 4th place, with a score of 75.

In the Nett event, the Newcombe family fought out a tight finish, with Jake beating dad Fraser on a countback with a Nett 70.  Wayne Healy came in third with a fine Nett score of 71.

A big thank you to Major sponsors, Hillross (Peter Nonnenmacher), MRE - McLaren Real Estate (Lincon McLaren), JLM Conveyancing (Jacinta Maas) for the significant support of both the men's and women's event.  Of course, the Pro Shop staff under Club Professional Stu Meani did a wonderful job throughout the day (although Paul did look a little chilly standing on the first tee for 5 hours in the wind and cold).

Women's:

A huge congratulations to local champion, Kendell Hunt after winning the Liz Kernohan trophy again (for the 6th time), with a fine round of 82 under difficult conditions.  Kendell won by three strokes from Debbie Finlaison, with Felicity Goodall third.

Nett winner was Debbie Finlaison (Highlands) with a score of 76 and runner up nett was Sue Marsh (Camden) with a score of 82.

Masters Pennants Report

Round 2 v Antill Park (away)

Master Pennants Report Week 2

After giving Antill Park a good old thrashing at Camden last week, Antill would have been after redemption this week.  Well, they came out fighting with several Camden players down early. Dave Jansen was 4 down after 6 and many other matches were very close. Number one player Chris Zanoni was under pressure from his opponent. All matches were set for the back 9 with the teams a 50/50 chance. Dave Jansen won the team 'bulldog' award by winning 3/2 after being 4 down, excellent job. Greg Matheson was solid all day with a 5/4 win. Peter Nonnenmacher got back to winning with a 2 up victory. Darren Cummings won 6/4 solid with a good putting display. Rob Bolton another good win 3/2. Overall, a great result for the team 5/3. Next week we are at home against Bardwell Valley.

Robert Zelesco, Team Manager.

Individual Scores:

  • Chris Zanoni - 6/5 loss
  • Greg Matheson- 5/4 win
  • Darren Cummins - 6/4 win
  • Duncan Skinner- 4/3 loss
  • David Jansen - 3/2 win
  • Rob Bolton - 3/2 win
  • Gary Hunt - 2/1 loss
  • Peter Nonnenmacher- 2 up win

Round 3 v Bardwell Valley (home)

A very strong performance by the team against a pretty overwhelmed opposition. The individual scores below indicate the strength of our team, particularly at home. At this stage in the round robin format, we have won all three of our games comfortably and hopefully will continue against the same opposition on Sunday at Bardwell Valley.

Team managers, Bob Zelesco and Noel Beattie will have some difficult team selection decisions to make in weeks to come- but a good problem to have with players in good form. Our big test will come one week later when we play the other undefeated team, Campbelltown, away- that will be a huge game.

Individual Scores:

Darren Cummins- 7/6 win

Greg Matheson - 9/7 win

Chris Zanoni - 6/5 win

David Jansen - 7/5 win

Rob Bolton - 7/5 win

Duncan Skinner - 5/4 win

Neville Hoskin - 6/4 win

Gary Hunt - 7/6 win Cosgrove/ Whear:

We have reached the quarter final stage of this handicap Match Play Men’s event. 12/6 is the QF date, with eight players remaining in a very interesting series of matchups: David McDermott v Bill Bell, Duncan Skinner v Darin Leis, Lincon McLaren v Wayne Harris, Greg Nonnenmacher v Shaun Cahill. Lincon must be exhausted following his victory in the previous round on the 4th extra hole (22nd) over Terry Small.

Junior News

Last Sunday afternoon, 30th May, Stu Meani had 33 young golfers from Camden, Campbelltown and Antill Golf Clubs visiting for an event at our course.

The younger children played a modified course and other older more experienced golfers played stableford.  It was a great afternoon and shows that junior golf is very strong in the Macarthur area.
