Major Pennant Report

WEEK 3:-

A solid 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 home win against Woolooware on Sunday 14th, under soggy conditions after the rain event the previous few days.  This win was essential for any prospects for progressing past the group stage and the boys certainly rose to the occasion.  Some very solid individual wins and some close losses showed that most players were in good form.  Manager, Brett Moyes informed spectators prior to the game that Lindsay Hudson, one of our most consistently successful players over many years, was unavailable for the game, missing a Pennant Match for the first time since 1965 (surely he's not that old Brett), so the win was even more impressive.

Individual Results:

  • Michael Bell - 4/3 win
  • Michael O'Toole - 1 down loss
  • Daniel Meldrum - halved
  • Corey Jaeger - 3/2 win
  • Lincon McLaren - 5/4 win
  • Jared Harvey - 2/1 loss
  • Matthew Green - 8/6 win

WEEK 4:-

Woolooware away was a vital match for both teams in the context of winning this division and a potential relegation threat.  Camden secured the win with another 4 1/2 to 2 1/2 victory, ensuring safety for next year in Division 3 and with an opportunity for promotion if they can defeat current leaders Muirfield at home and away in the next two weeks.  Best of luck boys.

Individual Results:

  • Michael Bell - 2/1 loss
  • Michael O'Toole - 2/1 win
  • Corey Jaeger - 5/4 loss
  • Lindsay Hudson - 4/2 win
  • Matthew Ferreira - halved
  • Matthew Green - 3/1 win
  • Daniel Meldrum - 2 up win

Members who would like to come and support the team this Sunday; we play our final home game - a must win - commencing at 11am.  See you there.

Club Match Play Report

The first K/O matches were played in horrible conditions on the wet weekend two weeks ago.  Some excellent play in all 3 grades resulted in some very juicy matchups for the 'last 8' matches the following week.  Probably the biggest grudge match was in A Grade, when Ben Watkins was matched with Troy Erickson.  These two have a 'history' of spirited competitive animosity (actually they are best mates), so no 10cm putts were going to be conceded and much sledging was to be expected prior to and during the match.  There were of course many other matches played, but this one captured the imagination of a large crowd (well there were two other players in the group).  So who won this grudge match?

The semi final matchups in each grade will be played as follows:

  • A - Robbie Minns V Darren Cummins;  Matthew Ferreira V Troy Erickson
  • B - Brian Berrell V Ian Stoddart;  Don Morris V Alan Nokes
  • C - Bob Ismay V Graham Cook;  Matt Turvey V Garry Wackett

Ladies Report

Ladies Report

Jean Fairless Trophy

The Jean Fairless Trophy was played on February 3rd and 17th.  The first round saw a number of ladies leading the way with a nett score of 74.  (Kim De Cean, Lisa Bond, Janice Turner and Kerry Cahill).  This meant going into the second and final round it was anyone's game.

The second round was faced with difficult wet conditions, which was evident in the final scores.  Kerry Cahill, the only lady able to score in the 70's, which meant the Jean Fairless Trophy for 2021 was awarded to her.  Well done Kerry!

GolfNSW 4BBB

The GolfNSW 4BBB event was held on Wednesday February 10th and Saturday 1th.  the Wednesday ladies definitely had the better conditions, with rain hanging around most of the morning on the Saturday.  Wednesday players Patricia Morrison and Shelley Chapman had a strong lead with a score of 45 points, which was going to be hard to beat on any given day.  A number of ladies braved the wet conditions on the Saturday, however the conditions proved too difficult.  Corrina and Kendell Hunt had the leading score of 36 on the Saturday, which means this year's GolfNSW 4BBB winners are Patricia Morrison and Shelley Chapman.

NSW Vets

Recently Wanda Kozinski competed in the Shoalhaven Week of Golf (NSW VGA Tournament).  We're very proud to say that she competed well and has walked away as Division 1 Women's Winner.  Congratulations Wanda!

Fixture Changes

There were a handful of changes made to the 2021 Fixtures Book for women.  There is a notice in the ladies room outlining these changes.  Please ensure you mark these changes in your calendar/fixture book.

General

  • A reminder that the course will be closed on Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th March for greens renovations.
  • The research for our 'History of Camden Golf Club' is well underway with this difficult task.  If you would like to contribute a story or any information about the Club, maybe some pictures, we would welcome your input.  Contact Greg Matheson, Kim De Cean, Colleen Versluis or Gary Hunt with information.
  • Thank you to the members who were unfortunately caught up in our latest 'fog event' last Saturday.  It is always difficult for the Pro Shop staff in circumstances where players lose their time slot due to dangerous playing conditions, so your understanding was appreciated.  Let's hope our mornings are fog free in the months ahead.
  • Another big name falls to the 'forgot to sign my card' syndrome last Saturday.  I 'Drew' to the conclusion that he parks his car near the front entrance.

Bottlebrushes Behind the 3rd Green

Yesterday Arthur Kelly removed the (almost invisible) stakes beside the bottlebrushes behind the 3rd green. Justin is of the opinion that they are now big enough to remain unstaked so no new stakes added.
