Darren Cummins

Great Score

Darren Cummins had a 'day out' on Saturday two weeks ago.  6 under par off the stick is an impressive start to 2021.

Congrats Darren on a great score!

First Medal Winners for 2021

Our January Medal last Saturday was the first 'nice day' of the year, with some players taking full advantage of perfect scoring conditions.  The rough is tough, but if you keep it on the fairway, the greens are receptive and true.

  • A Grade Men - David Bentham - 68
  • B Grade Men - Wil Hornman - 68 (cb)
  • C Grade Men - Ray Byles - 64 (ask him to tell you about it - if you've got a spare hour)
  • A Grade Women - Sue Marsh - 75
  • B Grade Women - Pam Scutts - 73
  • C Grade Women - Christine Pettitt - 74

Women's Golf News

New Course Index:

Commencing this Saturday, the new course index for ladies tees will be implemented.  Please be mindful of the changes when marking your stableford points on your card.

Tee Choice:

For stableford rounds ladies will now have a choice of tees.  If you choose to play off the pink tees you will not be eligible for gross prizes.  Obviously, your handicap will be lower when playing off pink.

Corellas

Corella Chasers Needed

Peter Legge is still searching for extra help.   If you can spare some time, please contact Peter or Donna Bernard.  Many thanks to the team who have been chasing them in recent weeks.  We have so far minimised damage to the greens, although some of the fairways have taken a hammering.

A reminder regarding the rules of golf - if your ball comes to rest in a bird damaged area, inform your marker and you are entitled to free relief (drop).  On the greens, you are also entitled to line of sight relief from bird damage, however, if you are chipping from the fringe, you are not.

From the Captain

  • Five more players disqualified yesterday (Thursday) for not signing their card. Please sign your cards after the round - marker and player.  A reminder also to players in carts who have been getting into bad habits - just because you are in a cart, the rules are NOT different.  Players must not mark their own card - some cart users are marking both - NO.
  • A reminder about bunker etiquette - players must enter at the low point of the bunker - even if this is further from your ball.  This avoids damage to the edges and also prevents the sloped edges from having to be raked - players complain when their ball stops on these slopes and  it wouldn't happen if we were not constantly raking them due to unnecessary entry and exits.  This will also allow balls to roll into the flat part of the bunker.
  • Please place rakes in the middle of bunkers facing in the direction of play.
  • Major Pennants is commencing on 31st January with a home game - all welcome to cheer on our team.  Manager, Brett Moyes has high hopes for a solid season.
  • Masters Pennants is not too far away.  An expression of interest sheet will be placed near the computers this week.  If you are keen to represent our Club, please add your name.  Players need to be over the age of 50 at the start of the tournament - around April.
  • Sand Buckets - please carry them and use them.  Our course is only as good as we are at protecting it - the small 1% things such as filling divots, repairing pitch marks.
  • Men's indexing of holes will change this week as a result of analysing the statistics over the last 12 months using the medal rounds as the basis.  Please be aware - we don't want anymore DQs for incorrect card marking.

Gary Hunt

Hole in One Update

Gary Hunt still has not had one!  But you can ask him if this has changed whenever you see him.
