Women's Golf

Wednesday 19th August, saw the third and final round of the Studley Cup.  The course played tough, with no run and greens a little slower than normal, not to mention the gale force winds that picked up mid round, and the 5 minutes of rain that some groups were lucky enough to encounter.  With that being said, this year's Studley Cup winner was Shelley Chapman with a score of 270, followed closely behind by Candice Bell (272).

Congratulations to the following Scratch and Nett winners:

General Information

After recent heavy rain, the Club needed to make the difficult decision to remove golf carts from use.  This is always a hard call and we are aware that some members cannot play if they have to walk the course.  However, when we have the following situation occurring, one can understand the total frustration the Greens staff have.  After reintroducing carts on Monday, specific requests were made to cart users regarding where they must not go in their carts due to some areas remaining very damp.  The following was the request:

CART USE:  In order to protect the golf course during current wet conditions please keep carts to the following areas:

  • 1st Hole:  Left Rough only
  • 5th Hole:  Right Rough only
  • 7th Hole:  Right Rough only
  • 9th Hole:  Cart Path Only
  • 12th Hole:  Cross over the ditch at path on right side
  • 14th Hole:  Right Rough only
  • 15th Hole:  Rough only (either side)
  • 18th Hole:  Rough only (either side)
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in looking after the golf course.

Unfortunately, some members found this request difficult to follow.  These photos were taken after the Pro Comp on Monday, in areas specifically mentioned as 'no go'.  I suppose we will need to keep carts off the course for longer periods after heavy rain in future.

Tyre MarksTyre Marks

  • Whilst on the state of our course - Ray Byles, Manager of our B & C Grade Pennant Team, reported comments made by visiting players on our course.  "We played Twin Creeks in the 1st two rounds of Warren/Gibson.  Almost to a man they could not get over the condition of our course, especially the greens.  Even on that terrible Sunday, they stated how good and fast they were.  "Best it's ever been", was a typical comment".  Congratulations Justin and his team.
  • Arthur Kelly has been doing a great job with a number of garden areas around the course.  He would like to remind us all of the local rule relating to staked trees.  There are now quite a few trees/shrubs (and more coming) planted in areas that might come into play with errant shots.  Arthur will attempt to stake each one and, where thought necessary, put either a wire "cage" or a plastic tree bag around them until they are well established.  Failure to adhere to the local rule is likely to result in unnecessary damage to them.  At the moment this could be an issue on the mounds behind/beside the 3rd green and beside the 7th green.  The garden area beside the 4th tee could also be a problem - I found at least 50 balls in there while tidying up and replanting there!  Some come from the 17th tee.  Others from the 3rd.
  • Beware the swooping magpie located prior to the 8th gully.

Higlett Edwards Semi Final Report

Match 1 - Trevor Gough and Darryl Casey V Corin Allen and Gary Hunt was postponed due to the cart unavailability.

Match 2 - The Pat Bardsley and Terry Small V Shaun Cahill and Frank Cahill match resulted in a win for Pat and Terry.  They will now play in the final against the winner of the other match to be played.

Foursomes

The next two weeks will see the Camden Golf Club Foursomes Championships for both the women and the men.

A few important rule changes:

  • If you feel the desire not to want to touch your partner's ball you may swap it only on the GREEN AND FAIRWAY. (Mark it first).
  • Plugged balls through the green can be swapped and dropped.
  • Mud adhered rule swap and drop through the green (if we have that local rule in place on the weekend).
  • 8th penalty area in front of green will be GUR this weekend.
  • Let's hope for a calm, windless day on Saturday.

Pennant Changes

Sadly, the men's Super Senior Pennants and the B & C Grade Warren & Gibson Shield seasons have been cancelled by Golf NSW, due to COVID.

Ray Byles and Ian would like to thank the following members for their willingness to represent the Club.  Two of the four (4) rounds completed were played in truly terrible conditions.  Those who played in those rounds showed great spirit.

  • Warren Trophy Members - Ken Diluccio, Jason Morton, Kevin Lockwood, Peter Southby, Stephen Hale, Brian Berrell, John Ward, Talby Elmo (Manager Ian Stoddart).
  • Gibson Trophy Members - Ian Stoddart, Duanne Johnson, Shuki Borthwick, Andrew Roberts, John Ferreira, Michael Vance, Trevor Gough, Brad Keys, Ray Byles (playing Manager).
