Men's Club Match Play Finals Report

The finals of the Match Play were contested last Saturday.

A Grade:- Darren Cummins defeated Lindsay Hudson 4/3 over a 36 hole final.  Both players found birdies hard to come by, although that seems to be an issue related to the speed of the greens, rather than the quality of play.  Both players have a wonderful record at the Club in both stroke and Match Play and many of us would have witnessed this quality as they played through our groups.

B Grade:- Brian Beaven defeated John Groucutt 3/2.  This final was very much a match of two nines, with Brian coming back from 3 down at the turn, to win 6 of the next 7 holes to win.  Great comeback from this long time member.

C Grade:- Bradley Spinks defeated Nathan Rego 3/2 in a good performance.  Unfortunately no extra details available on the match, but I'm sure plenty of celebrations for Bradley.  (Maybe Nathan needed Kendell to caddie).

Bunker

Rakes are Back in Bunkers

What you need to do:-

  • Rake the bunker after use. Use the back of the rake if you need to smooth the wall of the pot.
  • Place / toss the rake as near as possible to the MIDDLE of the bunker, in the direction of play.  Don't put the rake near a bunker lip.
  • Enter and exit the bunker at the low / flattest point - this is easiest.
  • Don't climb up the walls of bunkers.
  • No more preferred lies in bunkers - back to our normal struggles.

Scorecard

Scorecard Entry

It has been a while, but we are back to marking a playing partners card.  Try not to confuse yourself by putting your score in the wrong column - I think half the field did last Saturday at some point.  Some grace was considered last week for failing to have two signatures on the card.  This was only due to the change 'back to normal' - otherwise disqualification will occur.

Tee Times

Please report to the Pro Shop 15 minutes before your tee off time and be ready for play when the Pro Shop calls you to the tee, or the tee is available.

The reason for this request is that sometimes groups may get ahead of time - this helps at the end of the day when payers are trying to beat the sun going down - every minute helps.

Women's Golf

Women's Golf

Any missed event due to 'COVID' times has now been rescheduled.  For details of rescheduled events and dates, refer to the Notice Board in the Women's Locker Room.

Any lady wishing to play Sunday Pennants this year please sign up on the sheet in the Women's Locker Room.  A team manager is also required for the season.

Using the Driving Range

The driving range has become far more popular since COVID times and has continued to be used heavily.  This facility is for members only, unless used in conjunction with the Professional and coaching sessions for non-members.  Please be aware that the speed limit on the access road is 10km - this is for safety reasons for your car, golfers and Greens staff.  Be aware of players teeing off from the 17th tee and golf carts driving around the 16th green.  And don't forget to fill in divots on the range after use.

Marking Your Ball

With preferred lies on fairways remaining (but no longer in bunkers), mark your ball whenever you touch it.  It is essential practice so please don't be on the receiving end of a claim for not doing so, as this will result in a penalty and potential disqualification.

Congratulations

Congratulations

  • Well done to Michael Bell for a great Vardon event victory at Campbelltown a few weeks ago.
  • Great Score:  Dylan Tomkins with a plus 9 in a par event on Saturday two weeks ago.  The next best score on the day was 7 shots behind in a field of 167, with most of the field in the negative.  Great play!
  • Great Score Kendell Hunt:  42 points off a handicap of 7 in the Monday competition.  Well done!

Vandalism

We have had some cases of vandalism on the second hole.  If anyone has any information that may help us in our efforts to determine the culprits, please let Justin Bradbury or Donna Bernard know.

Booking In

Booking In

Back to normal of course again this week on Thursday 6pm in the Clubhouse.  Hopefully not as chaotic as last week with normal programming.

Please be aware of a change: As a result of some complaints regarding the 'sharing' of lottery positions, this week the rules will be enforced to ensure a fair lottery.  The only member allowed at the screens will be the person who's number was called out.  No sharing, favours, or transfers.  Only booking in 4 people at one time when called up.  If a person who has been booked in and then is called up, they CANNOT give their spot away to someone else.

Repairing Pitch Marks the Correct Way

It has been scientifically proven that the correct repair of a pitch mark on a green significantly increases the recovery time of the surface.  We have all seen different methods from members; some correct, some not.  Do you repair correctly?  Maybe, maybe not.  Check out the correct method on the link below.
