Thank you

A very kind donation was received recently from the lady who members may have seen collecting bottles around the course. Carmel donated $400 from her collection earnings last month to our club. If you see her, usually in the late afternoon, thank her please.

The new soil

Members will no doubt have seen the soil located in three areas of the course. (Justin has provided the following information).

Regarding the soil on the 12th - unfortunately the wet conditions during the days of transport meant we had to stockpile at the driving range as opposed to getting as much as we could to the 12th green surround - (this soil will not remain here). It's a work in progress at the moment. The mounding will not go much further to the right, there will be a little bit added but it will be tapered in to roughly the bare area where we will have a new crushed aggregate path that will tie into the existing concrete path at the blue 13th tee. The new path will go behind the blue tee and around to the black tee. Shaping the mound will extend further down the left side of the green with a larger portion at the front left of the green. It will be tied into the edge of the collar and mounded in such a way that it will provide a better aesthetic and strategic component to the hole. (Long term some additional bunkers are planned). One the right edge of the green/bunkers and around the 13th tee sand bin we will add a small garden and some plantings for aesthetics in an area where grass will not grow.

Regarding the 14th hole - the tiger tee box planned for this hole is a long way from being introduced. When we were offered the soil for free, you take it thankfully with long term plans in mind. There are a number of changes required on this hole before the tee box could be used. Some members have enquired as to other suitable uses for the soil and yes, some of that soil will be used on the gully between the 2 dams at a suitable time - a non growing season (winter) is not a good time.

Saturday 6th June - will see the recommencement of 2 tee starts (1st and 10th) for Saturday and Thursday Competitions. Please ensure that social distancing rules are obeyed when entering the ProShop and of course the Club (it will be great to actually sit down with your group after play, instead of a quick farewells we have endured over the past two months).

The Monday Pro Competition and the Friday 9 hole comp have both become very popular in recent times. You need to book in early to get a spot in both.

Last week's golfing news reminded members of their obligations regarding withdrawing from the timesheet in a timely manner. If you are unable to play there is an expectation that you withdraw at the earliest possible time (certainly prior to Friday evening for Saturday play). If you are booking other players in, make sure that you inform them that you have done so. With the waiting list in use, saving a spot for a friend knowing that you're not playing and if you take your name out of the waiting list your spot will be filled with somebody else isn't really playing to the rules. So if you can just take your name out and let the next person on the waiting list get a game - this is the correct process, particularly with the shorter days in winter and limited spots.

Pace of play - With the reintroduction of groups of 4 we have the issue of speed of play becoming a major issue - again. The last few groups last Saturday finished in the dark, with most of the field taking 5 hours (or close to it) to finish. This is unacceptable for any stroke round - and we played a stableford last week. A reminder - when you can't score any points, pick your ball up and move to the next tee. This week a Par event should be quicker, like an hour quicker.

Cart Use - A limit of 2 carts per group has been introduced so that we can share the carts amongst the entire field. Later in the day, if carts are available, Stu will allow more than 2 per group. If players you would like to walk 9 holes and cart the back nine, speak to Stu and he will do his best to accommodate - dependent on availability.

Saturday - This week's par event will be treated like the June medal for winners.

Score Cards - While we still have restrictions in the Clubhouse, score cards will continue to be dropped in the box in the Proshop and Stuart and his staff will continue putting in the scores.

Some reminders from Justin Bradbury and the team Course care is very important at all times, but particularly in the winter months. Divot repair is always on the agenda; pitch mark repair - try repairing yours and two others when you arrive at the green - problem solved. Bunker exit/entry points should be at the lowest point of the bunker - please don't climb up the face of the bunker. (Saturday morning a few weeks ago on the 3rd).
