Camden Golf Club

Thursday 19 December 2019

This will be the final edition of Golfing News for 2019.  Expect the next instalment mid January.

  • We wish all golfing members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  • Don't forget -  Camden Golf Club is a great venue to bring your family and friends during this period.

Since our last golfing news, a few big events have been and will be held:

  • Christmas Mixed Scrambleford, for the John Scutts Memorial Cup, held on Sunday 8th December.  A great day organised by Pam and Rob and the scores were very hot.  Col Hargraves certainly knows how to organise a quality team, with partners Janice Gill, Dianne Markow and Luke Campbell winning the main event by an incredible 9 strokes. The two 2 a 6 stableford points by the ladies on the second hole certainly helped after Luke's tee shot landed a metre from the pin.  The scratch event was won in equally impressive style by the team of Candice Bell, Shelley Chapman, Victor Morgan and Bill Bell.  A great day and the final time organised by Pam - congratulations on 15 years of outstanding organising and commitment to this event.  Many thanks to our sponsors who donated prizes - I don't think anyone went away empty handed.

Club Presentation Night

held on Monday, 9th December.  Congratulations to all prize winners, particularly Kendell Hunt and Darren Cummins who were crowned as our Club Champions for 2019 - both now having been 8 time winners.

Some interested age facts from the night - two juniors, Robbie Minns and Noah Graham took home multiple prizes highlighting their potential in the game.   The finalists in the Higlett Edwards (4 players) Terry Roberts, Joseph Jovaisa, John Lee and Dennis Moore had a combined age of over 300 years - again highlighting the fact that golf is a great game for all ages.

Christmas Event

A huge field will participate in the 4 ball Ambrose event this Saturday.  We hope all players enjoy the 'am' and 'pm' shotgun starts and the ham winners get a positive when it arrives home to families.  Enjoy the day!

A Few Reminders

  • In the event of a medical emergency on the course, players are reminded that '000' should be the first course of action.  Following this, the Pro Shop should be contacted (number is on your card), in the event that the emergency may require a defibrillator, or other assistance that the Pro Shop can provide.
  • The Course is clearly suffering at the moment.  Fairways have not been watered regularly for some time, while the greens and tees have received supplies.  The unfortunate fact is that our course is totally reliant on rain water for our dams to be filled.  Please be tolerant of this situation - I can only imagine how distressing it must be for our Greens staff who have worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to get the course looking so good and to now be totally controlled by factors outside of their control.  We clearly hope for rain - not just for the course, but for those fighting fires in the country.
  • A word of thanks to the 'team' who get out on the course late in the afternoons each day, chasing the birds.  members who do not practice late in the day would not be aware of the huge volume of corellas feasting on our course every afternoon.  If it were not for the members chasing them and firing the new gas 'cannon' to move them away, our greens would be destroyed every day.  Great job guys and a huge thank you.  As it is, they can't control all birds and we do get some damage to greens - which then requires significant remedial work by the greens staff.  Thank you to them.
