Kim De Cean (L) with Patricia Gleeson (R)

Vicky Beaven Match Play Final

The final was played on Saturday, 23rd November between Trish Gleeson and Kim De Cean.  The match was close on the front nine with Kim holding a slender lead, however some outstanding play by Kim on the 10th to the 15th resulted in a strong 5 and 3 victory.  Playing in front of the pair, my group saw some outstanding golf from both players.  The word is that Kim finished 6 shots under her handicap - now that is tough to beat.

Pictured right, Kim and Trish at the completion of the match played in great spirits.

Golf Balls

Golf Ball - Collection of Winnings

Members are asked to clear out their golf ball account with the Pro Shop prior to the end of the calendar year.  (We usually do this at the end of the financial year, however we left it a little late to advertise).

In order to keep the golf ball accounts manageable this will be done annually.

Golfing Santa

Justin Bradbury's Greens Report

The last edition of Golfing News contained a report form Justin from two weeks prior, so the information was not current.  The following report was presented to the Board Meeting on Wednesday, 27th November.

Justin Warren

NSW Golf Open

I'm sure for those at the course and those watching the scores on the internet, excitement was at fever pitch when local golfer Justin Warren hit the lead with an eagle on the 9th hole during round 3 of the NSW Open.

At 16 under par, leading a quality field including a number of European Tour players, Justin stoked my memories of the Camden Cup two years ago - yes, the day he shot 64 at Royal Studley to beat the locals by a lot.  Even though an Antill Park junior, we can take ownership - maybe our Cup was the turning point in his career?

It got better in Round 4. Hitting the lead at 18 under with 9 holes remaining, then equal leader standing on the 18th tee, we were all hoping for a JW victory - but not to be.

Recent Great Scoring

It seems preferred lies and slower greens suits many golfers

  • Brian Berrell with 47 stableford points last Saturday would have expected to be the top scorer for the day - (great round Brian) but... when dad is Club Champion and you've just secured his favourite golf clubs on permanent loan, Ryan Cummins managed 49 points off a 36 handicap - great effort!  I don't think his handicap will remain here for long.  The two ball wining score - 53 -  Wow!

Noah Graham

One of our up and coming juniors, played in the Pro-Am at the NSW Open last week at Twin Creeks.  I'm sure it was a wonderful experience playing with some guys as good as us Camden Members.  If you see Noah around the Club, ask about how he went.

General

  • Thursday Night Book-In commences a 'lucky draw' this week.  After the regular 'book in' is complete, a random draw will take place.  The winner will receive the next comp fee plus cart hire 'free'.  This special draw will take place at around 6:30pm, so you need to be there to win.
  • Preferred Lies will be extended.  Watering tees and greens has become the priority, so fairways are going to suffer with the current water crisis.
  • Christmas Ambrose will be held again this year on Saturday 21st. Members will be booking in for this event on Thursday.  This has been a very popular event over the past few years - an opportunity for players to be in the Club after 'play' together is not common, so it is a special day.  Obviously a 4 person Ambrose with:
    1. Shot gun start for the morning and afternoon sessions
    2. 44 hams to be won
    3. Long drive prize
    4. Drive and chip prize
    5. Nearest the pin on all Par 3's
    6. Fun hole positions
  • Our 2020 Programme Book (Fixtures Book) should be available on December 15.  We will keep you posted.

Juniors Australian Open Visit

On Tuesday Stuart Meani, James Blaker and Damian King took a group of our young juniors to the Australian Open.  This proved to be a great day and they were lucky enough to meet some of the best players in the world.  Check out some of our pics for the day.
