Club Championship Results

Some highlights:

  • Club Champions - Kendell Hunt and Darren Cummins - well done.
  • It's not often that you witness the beginning of a great golf career - we saw that last Saturday when 11 year old Noah Graham won the B Grade scratch.
  • Some of the Nett results in particular were so close - count backs and 1 shot seemed to be normal.
  • Robbie Minns wining the Junior section, but coming so close overall as a 15 year old - wonderful effort to be runner up in the A Grade.
  • A full set of results can be found on the Camden Golf Club website; golf club competition results; major events; and on the noticeboard in the Club.

Shelley Chapman is still all smiles as runner up, and the Captain looks on.

Noah Graham

Noah, wow.

Ray Byles & Stephen Humphreys

Ray celebrates with Club President, Stephen Humphreys.  The best C Grade player in the 'world' say Col H.

Higlett Edwards Final

This Saturday, 9th November, our men's pairs handicap Match Play final will be played.  Best of luck to the two teams - Terry Roberts and Joseph Jovaisa playing Dennis Moore and John Lee.

Course Closed

Greens Renovations

Justin Bradbury and his team will commence Greens Renovations on Sunday afternoon, 10th November and will continue over the following two days.

As a result, the course will be closed on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th November.

Ladies Pennants

5th Round - WGN Ladies Pennants - Sunday 27th October.

Sitting pretty in first place, we went in to this round (playing at home) feeling optimistic knowing that a decent win would all but cement our position on top of the ladder.  Oh Golf!  The ladies played some steady golf against Lynwood that could have really gone any way.  A few unfortunate scenarios resulted in a few too many squares and not enough wins for the team.

We played tough though, and fought till the end, with all bar two games going down to the 18th. We didn't get the win we all wanted, but we still walk away on top of the ladder, now with Penrith and Lynwood. Next week's game at Penrith is going to prove to be a tough one, the last of the season, the ultimate decider!

The individual results for last weeks match are as follows:

  • Wanda Kozinski - Lost 1 Down.
  • Maria Thorn - Squared
  • Susan Miller - Lost 2/1
  • Sue Marsh - Squared
  • Bernadette Johnston - Won 4/3
  • Chris Pettit - Squared
Good luck to the team playing next week, Shelley, Maria, Susan, Linda, Bernadette & Chris. Despite the outcome of the last game, we all should be proud of the efforts the ladies have put in. We have proven to be the team to beat.

Mixed Pennants

We have a large level of interest in Mixed Pennants, which is fantastic to see.  Team Managers will be in contact with those who have expressed an interest in playing regarding trials.

Major Pennants

A reminder that those men with a low handicap are asked to consider their availability to represent our Club in Major Pennants next year. The 'expression of interest' sheet is above the score entry screens- at this stage we have very few nominations.  Matches are played on Sundays and commence in February.

Vicky Beaven Match Play

The ladies commence their Match Play Nett Championship this Saturday.  Best of luck to all ladies who qualified.

Christmas Mixed Event

Christmas Mixed (for the John Scutts Memorial Trophy) is a Scrambleford.  Some prior information may have suggested that the event was an Ambrose - but last year we found the scrambleford was a very popular event.

Bookings are open online - Sunday, December 8.

Teams of 4 can be single sex or mixed, with our usual donated major prizes.

Pam has indicated that this will be the last time that this event will feature in our calendar, so don't miss this great day.

Grass Fire

Smokers - Please Note

The photo opposite was taken on the 11th on Saturday.  With the dry and windy conditions prevailing, please be very careful in disposing of cigarette butts.

The previous Saturday, we had a near miss when players on the 10th tee noticed a small fire commence on the left of the tee box and managed to contain the problem - well done guys.

We can only assume that it was the result of a cigarette.

Albert Smart & Stephen Humphreys

AGM - Some Highlights

There were a number of significant 'events' from the AGM on Monday, October 28.

Firstly, our Club President, Stephen Humphreys, was unanimously supported as our newest Life Member.  Stephen has had a remarkable career as a golfing member, Committee Member, Board of Directors and President of Camden Golf Club. He has led our club with dedication and passion for the past 19 years and will continue in this role again in 2020.  A richly deserved honour!

Fifty years of membership of 'anything' is impressive.  Albert Smart was presented with a 50 year acknowledgement of membership of Camden Golf Club by President Stephen Humphreys.  What a wonderful achievement for this popular member.

Board Member Roles 2019/20

  • Stephen Humphreys - President
  • Andrew Moyle - Vice President (Chair of Marketing & Members Committee)
  • Gary Hunt - Captain (Chair of Golf and Match Committee)
  • Jim Blaker - Vice Captain
  • Colleen Versluis - Treasurer (Chair of Finance Committee)
  • Ben Watkins - Member, (Chair of Greens Committee)
  • Troy Erickson - Member
  • David Kidd - Member
  • Brett Moyes - Member

A number of Special Resolutions were passed.  One in particular will result in increased recognition for members who, over a long period of time, give excellent service to the Club in management/administration, golf representation, committee membership, volunteer work.  An honour board will acknowledge these members.  A process for nomination will be introduced to members over the next 12 months in preparation for our first recipients at next year's AGM.

The Longest Day

The Longest Day (a reminder)

Monday 16th December 2019

Camden Golf Club is one of the clubs in Sydney involved in a Cancer Council initiative to raise funds for Cancer research and development.

The Longest Day is a physical and golfing challenge. Participating players will play 72 holes (in one day). The idea is to get a team, or join a team and then enter online. Just search for 'Cancer Council - The Longest Day'. You will then need to book tee times with Stu.

Camden Golf Club has nominated our services and our course for this day - Monday, December 16.  Players from other golf clubs may choose to play at our course to participate in the day.  There is no cost to any players - but participants play 4 Rounds of golf, commencing as early as possible.  Stu has already received bookings from 20 players from other clubs.  You can cart or walk. (Hiring a cart is at your expense).

Further details to come.  But just organise your friends and challenge yourself.  Keep your score for all 4 rounds and we will organise a prize for the best nett score.

We are hoping for a big "Camden' support for this event.
