Club Championship Updates:

Some exciting play has occurred in Rounds 1 and 2 in all grade, with some more to follow over the last two rounds of the championship. Pin placements will be a little harder in Round 3 and 4 and the greens are likely to get quicker. There are some players currently outside the top 4 with a big change to catch the leaders, so hang in there. The clear standout in the men's events is junior Robbie Minns, leading both the A Grade and of course the Junior events, while the Ladies grades are all wide open.

The following is an update showing the leading four scores after two rounds in the scratch events.

(All scores and updates are on the website)

Senior Order of Merit 2019

A major omission in the last edition of the Golfing News was the great victory in the Nett category by Bob Zelesco in the Senior Order of Merit even held a few weeks ago. This even attracted around 70 of the best senior golfers in Sydney. Bob has been the major organiser and sponsor of this even for many years and it was a fitting reward for him to win this event. Great organisation again. Well done Bob.

Request from the Greens Staff:

Some members have been practicing from 'wherever they want' on the tee box. Often, it is from championship tee positions. A reminder - the tee position for each day has been set to factor in wear and tear. When you are practicing, hit your tee shot from the designated blue/red markers for the day.

Justin Bradbury Superintendent's Report

  • Greens are currently being mowed at 3mm.
  • New cups and flag poles were put out for the beginning of Club Championships
  • Minor plug work done on the back of the 5th green.
  • Greens renovations will be November 10th -12th. This change in scheduling from recent years allows the greens to be renovated in a more suitable period for the local climate allowing quicker recover and will put the greens in a better position of overall health to assist them in dealing with the inevitable stresses and harsh conditions that we experience in the summer months.
  • The focus on the greens in these next couple of weeks will continue to be the preparation for the club championships.

Ladies Pennant Report

Sunday 13th October - Rnd 3 vs Springwood @ Richmond.

This week saw very late changes to the team on the Saturday night due to carts being not allowed on the course. We had to pull in Tricia Gleeson to fill in for the team, and are very thankful for her willingness to do so. After the first 2 rounds we were sitting in equal first place with Penrith, so needed a big win to try and pull away in the for/against standings, and the team did just that! We got up with a 5-1 win. Individual results are as follows:

Shelley Champman - WON 4&2

Maria Thorn - Lost - 1 Down

Linda Hogan - WON 3&2

Tricia Gleeson - WON 5&3

Bernadette Johnston - WON 4&2

Chris Pettitt - WON 1 up.

Sunday 20th October - Rnd 4 vs Richmond @ Springwood.

There could not be a more perfect day for golf! The sun was shining, the wind was still, the course was dry. Then there was my golf game....Not so perfect....Thankfully though, the rest of the Camden Team didn't play anything like me and got up with a 4.5-1.5 win. A well deserved win, which, with Penrith having lost against Lynwood now has us clear 1st on the Leaderboard. WELL DONE LADIES!. Individual results are as follows:

Shelley Chapman- LOST 4&2

Maria Thorn - WON 2&1

Susan Miller - WON 4&2

Sue Marsh - HALVED

Bernadette Johnston - WON 3&2

Chris Pettitt - WON 3&2

This coming Sunday (27th) we play Lynwood at home. Tee off is at 11am. Good Luck Ladies.

Shelley Chapman

The Longest Day

Camden Golf Club is one the clubs in Sydney involved in a Cancer Council initiative to raise funds for Cancer research and development.

The Longest Day is a physical and golfing challenge. Participating players will play 72 holes (in one day). The idea is to get a team, or join a team and then enter online. Just search for 'Cancer Council - The Longest Day'. You will then need to book a tee times with Stu.

Camden Golf Club has nominated our services and our course for this day - Monday, December 16th. Players from other golf clubs may choose to pay at our course to participate in the day. There is no cost to any players - but participants play 4 Rounds of Golf, commencing as early as possible. Stu has already received bookings from 20 players from other clubs. You can cart of walk. (Hiring a cart is at your expense).

Further details to come. But just organise your friends and challenge yourself. Keep your score for all 4 rounds and we will organise a prize for the best nett score.

We are hoping for a big 'Camden' support for this event.

NSW Deaf Sports
Children and Carts:

In recent weeks we have had a number of cart 'incidents'. Some have involved children in control of the cart.

A reminder - 'No drivers license - No cart driving'. Members and visitors with children in a cart must ensure their safety and must not allow them to be in control of the vehicle. (I did witness a dad video his young son driving a cart last week). A potentially very costly error in more ways than just money.

Bunker Rules

Driving me crazy! During the first round of championships, I counted 10 rakes, lost interest in continuing to count), on the side lip and back lip of bunkers on 2,3,4,6,7,9 plus......... In the past we have assumed social players. My apologies to them. PLEASE can we ensure that after raking, bunker rakes are tossed as carefully as possible into the middle of the pot, with the handle in the direction of play. If we place them on the edge and a players ball rests against it, there is the probability of a horrible downhill slope, or even worse that the player cannot find a spot in the bunker no nearer the pin for the ball to stop (if on a slope) and the player needs to take a stroke penalty and take the ball out of the pot.

Pennant Reminder

Players wishing to represent Camden Golf Club in either Major Pennants (Males), or Mixed Pennants (Male and Female) please write your name of the 'expression of interest' sheets on the notice board near the score entry screens. Pennant matches are played on a Sunday and will commence early next year. Teams need to be arranged and selected over the next few months.
