Hole in One

Hole in One Report

Again, that special noise that is not your usual sound on the course, coming from the area near the 16th tee box. That was the sound on Saturday morning, 31/8, around 8.30am.  Jake Williams was the player, his group were making the noise.  Well done Jake.  I have heard some horrible rumours about how the ball got into the hole. I have it on 'good' authority it did not go in off the rocks?

We, here at Camden, must have had a record number of hole outs this year- it must be getting easier.  Why am I finding it so difficult?

Higlett/Edwards Report

We have our Finalists for this Men's 2 Ball handicap Match Play competition, one of our major events of the year.

In one Semi Final last week, Terry Roberts and Joseph Jovaisa had a comfortable 3 and 2 victory over Bill Bell and Craig Sims.  In the other match, Dennis Moore and John Lee had a very close victory over Victor Morgan and Allan Rousell, finishing on the 18th hole.

The final will be played on the 9th November.  We will keep you posted.

C Grade Pennant Team

Congratulations on a great performance throughout the pennant season.  It was great that
everyone could make a contribution.  As a result of our overall standing we earn ourselves a bye this weekend.

Our first final will be played on Sunday 15th September at Glenmore Heritage Village against either Woolahra or Asquith at 11.00am.

Well done team - Brad Keys, Brian Berrell, Andrew Roberts, Steve Hill, Ron Hughes, Nathan Rego, Michael Vance, Shuki Borthwick and Peter Southby.

Super Senior Rams Pennant Report - Sponsored by Garry Campbell (Campbelltown Coolrooms)

On Monday 9th September we again travelled down to the Illawarra. We were drawn to play Kareela at Port Kembla.  The weather report was predicting rain and high winds.  All this with a game on the line we knew we had to not just win but win well.

Peter Legge returned to lead the Garry Campbell Super Senior Rams out in this must win big scenario at Number Eight.  Peter struck the ball well and worked his way around the course extremely well to record a strong 7/5 win in the tricky conditions.

Brian Thorn played at Number Seven and played under the wind very well to record a 5/4 win. There were a couple of streaky shots but every time he just gritted his teeth and knuckled down to play great golf in the wind.  His opponent was certainly impressed and commented upon how terrific Brian's swing is for such a young Ram.

Wayne Shaw again loved the challenge of scratch golf match play and displayed how well he is settling into being a Senior Ram with a terrific 6/4 win.  Wayne again displayed great touch with his irons into the very tricky Port Kembla greens.

Bernard Allport drove the ball beautifully off the tee all day to smother his opponent before the Kareela player could find a way to win any hole.  This was a very good display in the wind which led to a strong 5/4 win.

Kenneth Bellman showed just what a strong team player he is on the tricky Port Kembla layout. Kenneth had some fun moments in the wind but played some amazing shots to nail his opponent 6/5.  A great display off the tee and on the greens which had some interesting set ups.

Steven O'Donnell slotted straight back in at Number Three and was probably our best ball striker in such cold and windy conditions.  It didn't even look as if Steven had been away such was the quality of his work off the tee and the fairway.  He also handled the slicker Port Kembla greens very well.

Joseph Smuk revelled in the windy conditions showing just what a quality golfer our Super Senior Number Two Ram is!  Hit fairways, hit greens and putted like a true Ram.  His opponent complained that Joseph didn't make a mistake all day.  This was our best win of the day - 8/6 at Number Two. What an achievement!

The entire side then banded together to try and will Neville Hoskin home at Number One. Neville is having a great season.  Playing wonderful golf in every game and leading from the front against the best golfer in every other side.  Neville eventually lost 1 down.  While he had the better of his opponent off the tee and the fairway his opponent had the better luck on some quite tricky greens.  Some of the pin placements on a windy day were very hard to understand.  However, as a team we were all Super impressed with Neville's determination and his efforts to try and snatch his match back.

Overall, a great team win, which sets us up for the next two rounds.  If the team wins the next two rounds they will progress through to the play-offs.

This week's results
  • Neville Hoskin  -  Lost 1 down
  • Joseph Smuk  -  Won 8/6
  • Steven O'Donnell  -  Won 7/5

Around the course

  • The 10th tee box is getting close to completion. Some handrails and fencing will see a very professional looking tee box completed. The turf has been laid and we can now hope for some good growing weather.
  • The newly sculpted 2nd tee box has also been turfed. Hopefully both new tees will be in play in around 4-6 week's time.
  • Obviously the wind has created a great deal of tree litter on the course. If you see sticks and bark on the fairways, please pick some up and place into an appropriate position near a tree. This will help the green staff with mowing and prevent players having potentially award ball positions (leaning against a stick on the fairway (and rough) can be a real problem).
  • As is the case all year, please be vigilant with filling in divots. We are about to enter a growth period, so having a good starting base is important.
  • While we are teeing off in front of the regular tee boxes on 2 and 10, big hitters are reminded that if you can reach the green, wait for the players ahead to putt out and leave the green. Player safety is a priority. Landing on the green and apologising to the group ahead afterward is not good enough.
