Ladies Pennant Report

Congratulations to the Ladies Pennant Team who won their pool and now progress to the knock out stage.

In the final round, the ladies won with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Leonay at Campbelltown Golf Club.  As a result, they finished undefeated in their South West pool.  The team will be playing Penrith next week in the knockout phase of the tournament.  Unfortunately, team captain, Shelley Chapman has found a plane ticket to Europe as slightly more appealing (organised before the event) and will unfortunately be unavailable for this and future games.  However she has every confidence in the form of all players in the team.

Individual results from 17/6:

  • Shelley Chapman - 2 Up win
  • Wanda Kozinski - 2 down loss
  • Mindy Ross - 5/3 win
  • Maria Thorn - 5/4 win
  • Kerry Cahill - 2 Up win
All ladies gave their opponent over 10 shots in the handicap system.  A great effort!

Masters Pennant Report

Well, the final match of the season and it came down to a missed 3 foot putt by the opponent, followed by a successful 2 foot putt.  Neville Hoskin had the two footer for the closest of victories, 8 points to 7.  It should probably never have been this close, but that's golf.
Third place in our pool was a little disappointing, but we now look forward to a graded draw in 2020. Penrith was the winner of our group.

A few thanks - firstly to Gary Hunt and 'Admark' who sponsored the team with very generous support; our team managers, Brian Thorn and Ray Byles for their organisation and support, the regular team caddies (Steve and Chris) and some regular supporters who came to watch our home games and Bob Zelesco for his welcome post match refreshments (after years of sponsoring this team).

Final match individual results:

  • Greg Matheson - 6/5 win
  • Bill Bell - 3/1 loss
  • Neville Hoskin - square
  • Joe Smuk - 1 down loss
  • Gary Hunt - square
  • Peter Nonnenmacher - 2 Up win
  • Neale Besgrove - 5/4 win
  • Bob Zelesco - 5/4 loss
A number of the team members will now start preparing for the Super Seniors (over 65's) Pennant season in a few months.  We wish them well!

Welcome back Justin Bradbury after his very taxing time at the US Open.  Watching on TV, I'm sure I saw Justin laughing at Tiger trying to extricate himself from the deep rough.  We hope you don't get any ideas on increasing the depth of rough at Royal Studley.  Also thanks to Issac and his team for the excellent preparation of the course during Justin's absence.

Due to Justin's travels, we do not have a Superintendent Course Report for this edition of Golfing News.  Below are a few pics from Justin's travels.
