Camden Cup - 18th May 2019

This is our premier men's event for the year.  The event is a Vardon Event, which means that many top players from our district and further afield will nominate to play.  The event is for A Grade Camden members and visitors with a handicap of 7 or less.  Closing date for entries will be Monday, 13th May.  Our major sponsors for the day have donated significant prizes.

A big thank you to Peter Nonnenmacher  (Hillross) and Andrew Moyle (TLD Logistics) in advance.

Ladies Results

The first round of the Sharp/Turner pairs Match Play was completed last week.  Solid wins to the Annie Brady/Maria Thorn combination as well as the Yvonne Day/Margaret Poulton team will see them progress to the semi finals against Shelley Chapman/ Wanda Kozinski and LynBullock/Jacky Matheson.

Ray Griffin

Masters Breakfast Event

Many thanks to Stuart Meani and his team for organising the Masters Monday event.  Of course, it had a few difficulties due to the Masters commencing 5 hours earlier than normal, so Tiger's victory was completed by 4.30am our time, well before our planned festivities.   Despite this setback, we all enjoyed the breakfast at 8am, watched some replays and then proceeded to take on Camden Augusta, with some very tough pin placements.

A big field of over 90 players graced our course after breakfast.  Some very good individual performances on the day from Adam Burnett (42 points), Shelley Chapman (41), Matt Jones (41), Bradley Keys and Raymond Griffin both with 40. The winner on the day was Ray, when he drew the correct player from the masters out of the hat to create a final score of 80 points.

Many thanks to our sponsors.  Hopefully next year, we can actually watch the final round unfold live.

Chippers

Chippers
Well that's a wrap - Term 1 of Chippers has closed and the Chippers group, their parents and their clinic coaches from Western Sydney Golf Academy are all having a break before Term 2 commences.

Flashback a few weeks to when The Chippers had chipping practice to achieve a hole in on.  While their target was larger than usual, even their young ages they had the burning desire to achieve the illustrious hole in one.

We've been inundated with positive feedback about the way Greg, Adriana and Stuart impart their knowledge and passion for the game.  We thank them, the parents and grandparents who sacrifice their Sunday morning to help develop this love for golf on our junior players.  If you have a child, grandchild or friend of the family interested in learning our great game, contact Stu in the Pro Shop for details.

Macarthur Challenge

This event was held last Sunday at Campbelltown Golf Club.  Unfortunately, our team were not successful in winning the coveted trophy.  Antill Park won the very closely contested event.  Congratulations to both Kendell Hunt and Declan Hobbs who won their respective events in the Women's and Juniors. Unfortunately, other matches didn't go our way.

Thank you to all members of our team for their effort. We look forward to the Challenge next year at Antill Park.

Men's Masters Pennants

The season is about to commence for the Masters team.  For those unaware, this competition is for the over 50 year old players, even though most of our team is over 60; (some are over 70).  Our pool is a tough one this year, with Penrith, Glenmore and Ryde our opposition.  Brian Thorn and Ray Byles will be the team managers and they look forward to some good results.

Our team sponsor, Admark, has kindly provided our team uniform and we will be playing with their name on our golf balls.  (If you find any that we lose, please return to Gary Hunt).

Our first game is this Sunday at home against Glenmore - who won their division last year.  If you would like to watch -you can actually see the ball (unlike Major Pennants where they hit it too far), 11am start.

Goodluck to the team.  Team members are: Gary Hunt, Neville Hoskin, Chris Zanoni, Bob Zelesco, Rob Bolton, Steve O'Donnell, Brian Thorn, Bill Bell, Peter Nonnenmacher, Joe Smuk, Neale Besgrove and Greg Matheson.

Justin Bradbury's Course Superintendent Report (16/4/19)

  • Greens have come out of renovations well and recovery has been very positive except for the 12th green.  Weak areas on this green received a slightly heavier topdressing of sand which has compromised recovery.  Seed has germinated well in most areas and will continue to develop and mature.
  •  Height of cut on greens was initially at 6mm (first cut 29/3) after renovations and has been gradually brought down since. It is now at 4mm on all greens.
  • Greens are being walk mowed during the week and triplex mowed on weekends.  Greens are now also getting a roll at least once a week.

Member Welfare

  •  Another fallen golfer - Dean Duffield had a fall off his balcony.  Dean spent several days in hospital but is now home and sporting a large cut to his head.  Once again "senior golfers beware of heights".
  • Great to see Bob Preston on Thursday.  Still in a moon boot.  Bob hopes to be back playing again in two (2) weeks.

Welfare Officer.
