Pennant Reports - Men's Major Pennant

Round 1 got off to a good start, with a solid 4-3 home victory over Wakehurst.

Individual results:

  1. Mitchell Arnold - lost 6/4
  2. Michael Bell - lost 4/2
  3. Lindsay Hudson - won 7/5
  4. Daniel Meldrum - won 5/3
  5. Michael O'Toole - won 7/6
  6. Dean Mulley - won 2/1
  7. Ben Watkins - lost 4/3

Res - Joel Berrell - won 4/3

Round 2 was not quite as positive, with an away loss to Wakehurst by 5 games to 2. The team this week was depleted due to absence and sickness, so we are looking for a positive bounce back against Manly at home this Sunday.

Individual results:

  1. Joel Berrell - lost 4/2
  2. Dan Meldrum - lost 5/4
  3. Lindsay Hudson - won 4/2
  4. Dean Mulley - won 2/1
  5. Brett Moyes - lost 2/1
  6. Ben Watkins - lost 5/4
  7. Mitch Arnold - lost 3/2

Mixed Pennant

Unfortunately our season is over, following a loss in Round 5 to Bankstown away, 3 points to 2. With one round remaining it is not possible for us to catch the leaders Macquarie Links.  However, a final round (round 6) victory over Macquarie Links not only gave us some positives, but also caused Mac Links to lose the division.  An excellent 4 1/2 to 1/2 victory at home. Well done to the team for a solid season.  We beat every team on our home course, but just lost a couple of close ones, away from home.

Corella

Bird Watch

A more accurate update on the Corella bird chasing crew.  My apologies to those who I did not acknowledge last week.  Once again, many thanks to the members involved in helping to reduce the damage:

  • Brian Thorn  (2 days)
  • Dean Duffield (2 days)
  • Barry Sullivan (1 day)
  • Nicolas Zelesco (when he can)
  • Peter Legge  (2 Days)
  • Gary Hunt (when he can)
Each member is there for approximately 1 to 3  hours on their allocated day.

Around the Course

  • Please repair pitch marks on the greens.  It is important that we give the greens every chance to recover.  Not repairing pitch marks does not help at all.
  • The 9th hole is getting closer to completion.  The irrigation line has been installed and the new turf will take off soon.  Please do not play from the ground under repair areas.  The signs should say compulsory (a few missing this word), but the board outside the pro shop does indicate compulsory GUR.
  • An important safety issue:  If you are a cart user, please note.  We have had some 'near accidents' occurring on the 6th hole, when carts take a journey to the right-hand side toward the 5th fairway (flying golf balls from the 5th).  Please do not go this way when you have hit a ball short and right.  We have now opened access to the right half of the fairway on the 6th - over the bridge; just make a right turn after going past the rocks.
  • We are up to the final 8 in each grade of our men's Match Play Championships.  If you are interested in the scores in matches, view on the Club's website under competition results/ major events.  Best of luck to all involved.
  • Please read Justin Bradbury's report as presented at the Greens Committee Meeting this week.  Some excellent information about the course.

A drinks cart is being trialled on Saturday competition days.  The cart is available during the warmer times of the day.  Commencing around 11am until 3pm.  Soft drinks and water are available for sale.  A ticketing system is being used for the beer - you can pre-purchase tickets before your round.
